Arts Whistler Art Labs: Learn Something New This Spring

Have you always wanted to learn the ancient technique of wood burning? Or how about creating your own hanging basket? Well, luckily for you Arts Whistler has some great Art Labs coming up this Spring that offer locals and guests a variety of different workshops and classes to get creative in. Whether you’re trying to start your art career or just get out of the house more, attending a Whistler Art Lab is the perfect opportunity to learn some new techniques and have some fun doing it.

Pyrography | March 22

Haven’t you always wanted to learn the ancient art of wood burning? Well, now is your chance to join artist Kylie Millar as she teaches you the art of Pyrography. Local artist, Kylie Millar specializes in pyrography and encaustic artworks, primarily working with wood, beeswax, resin, and acrylic paint to create mixed media pieces.

Encaustic Wax Painting | March 29

Here’s your chance to learn encaustic wax painting from artist Kylie Millar. Kylie will demonstrate various ways for you to create a mixed media piece and experiment with different lines, textures, shading, collage with wax, image incorporation, and layering with other media to create your very own masterpiece to take home at the end of the class.

Both the Encaustic Wax Painting and Pyrography classes can be taken independently to learn each artistic technique, or together for a chance to combine the two techniques and build upon your work.

Dreams and Wishes | April 12

In the Dreams and Wishes workshop you’ll work with an instructor to create your own vision board! Start visually sorting your ideas, thoughts, dreams, and wishes with a vision board that allows you be creative while also focusing on what you want for yourself. Using collage, you’ll cut, arrange, glue, laugh, and unwind as you let your creativity run wild with no boundaries. There’s no rules and no artistic experience is needed when you’re creating an inspiring vision board.

From the Garden Shed | May 10

If you’re searching for inspiration for your garden this year than this is the class for you! Learn new garden skills while you create your own moss lined hanging basket. Instructor, and owner of From the Garden Shed, Catherine Karpman will guide you through the process of putting together a shade or sun loving hanging basket. You’ll be given all the materials to create you basket as well as an understanding of how to maintain it during the summer!
