Mountain Essentials
For a day of skiing or riding, what items do you take up with the mountain with you?
It’s no secret that carrying a backpack filled with lunch, snacks and essential supplies, will come in handy and saves on the wallet for a day of skiing. For those days when you do not carry a backpack, we’ve come up with a list of our suggested pocket items to bring up the mountain with you.
Three essential items are:
- Granola bars, for a quick bite and boost of energy on the chair lift
- Packs of hot chocolate mix or a tea bags for morning or afternoon breaks
- Packs of hand warmers, because no one likes cold hands
These three items are perfect for each family member to carry in their pocket, and you can purchase a box of them before your trip.
Other pocket items that may come in handy on certain days are:
- Lip balm
- Sunscreen
- Tissues
- Google wipe
- Ski/Snowboard lock
- Toque
- Whistle
If you’re planning on going out of bounds and into the backcountry, the bare minimum you should carry with you is:
- Avalanche transceiver (beacon)
- Shovel
- Probe
Always remember to tell somewhere where you are going, when to expect you back and to travel with a friend.
